Interleaving

read by salli shepherd

The weeping of leaves is liquid glitter
and the patter of rain on shutters and eaves
recalls tall wheat, which resembles a little
the weeping of leaves.

The waving of wheat and the pattern it weaves
riddle the mind with a beautiful muddle,
a merciful purging of all that grieves.

The finches twitter, the branches thrash
and the soothing flutter of sunlight laves
like cool lakewater, all repeating
the weeping of leaves.

The leaping of weaves is wicked clutter
and the shadow of pain on shuddering leaves
recalls all peat, which denounces as twaddle
the weeping, the leaping,
the weeping, the leaping
of weaves.
