And the winners are...

Our 2007 One-Act Playwriting contest  garnered more entries than expected!   Buried in a heap of high-quality manuscripts, we've been reading dialogue into the late hours.  We've settled on two winners, although what separated the winners from those who did not win, as well as the winners from each other, could easily be measured in inches, not feet.

But enough monologue; here's the denouement:

1st Place Winner:

Duncan McIntyre
, for his play "Love Undying."  A lyrical, unsettling, viciously macabre little ghost-story, sporting a knife-twist of an ending, Mr. McIntyre had us by the throat from the opening scene.  He wins $200 (US), and his play will be produced and published by Soundzine in our April, 2008  issue.

2nd Place Winner:

Atar Hadari
, for his play "The Lonesome Death of Janis Joplin."  This play rocked our socks off.  Spot-on dialogue and powerhouse conflict made this a moving tribute to a blues legend.  Mr. Hadari wins $50 (US).  Second Place also included publication, but since we are so enamored of this play we've decided, with Mr. Hadari's permission, to produce it in our October 15th issue.

Honorable Mentions:  A few entries that we particularly loved, and wish we had the time and space to produce, in no particular order:

John Hearty:    Flowers

Steven A. Shapiro:    It's a Long Way Home, Mr. Wolfe

Lawrence DuKore:    Exploding the Swan

Lynn Snyder:
    Mayan Mask

(We've decided to make this contest an annual one.  Look for details on the 2008 contest in our April issue.)
