Parker Tettleton

Summer

I'd tell you about Benjamin,
the spoiled little bastard.

The dog track that was built
six miles behind the house.

The way these blades of grass
flatten out like a lake after it rains

and how their rigid tips
were crushed by many last Winter.

If we had the time, we both know
we wouldn't talk of such things.

We knew it then and someone,
something always will.
